The Model Portfolio Mid Cap Flyers was updated this weekend. New Adds of 8 stocks were made and Removals of 8 stocks were made. All prices are as of 01/05/2024. A total of 20 stocks are in the Portfolio now.
The Mid Cap Flyers Model Portfolio is now up 18% for the year and outperforming its benchmark MDY by 6%. Active outperformer GPS is up +48% and PTVE up +36%.
BackTest – The Backtest for this Portfolio outperformed the MDY benchmark in 15 out of the 19 years tested. It underperformed in years 2014 and 2019. It was largely even with the benchmark in 2008 and 2015. When the Portfolio outperformed, it was usually by a significant margin. The best year was 2005 when it was up by 46%.

The Mid Cap Flyers Model Portfolio continued to keep pace with its benchmark MDY, in December. It was about 6% ahead of the benchmark for 2023. The number of Adds and Removals from the Portfolio dropped from 17 last update to 8 today. This reflects the fact that the fundamental data used to generate the changes does not vary that much during the last month of the quarter. Most earnings reports occur before the 2nd month of the quarter ends. The software decided to keep the two top outperformers, GPS and PTVE for this update. I expect that over the next year, the Portfolio will continue to keep pace and to extend its outperformance over its benchmark MDY.
