The Model Portfolio Large Cap Stalwarts was updated this weekend. New Adds of 7 stocks were made and Removals of 11 stocks were made. All prices are as of 01/10/2024. A total of 15 stocks are in the Portfolio now.

Add – GE, IP, META, MLM, NRG, REGN, STLD

Remove – CBOE, CDAY, CINF, EG, EMR, LYV, PGR, PODD, RCL, TAP, VICI

The Model Portfolio Large Cap Stalwarts continues its outperformance over its benchmark RSP. This is the third straight month the Portfolio has outperformed the benchmark.

BackTest – The Backtest for this Portfolio outperformed the RSP benchmark in 12 out of the 19 years tested. It underperformed in years 2008, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2018 and 2020. It was largely even with the benchmark in 2010. When the Portfolio outperformed, it was usually by a significant margin. The best year was 2017 when it was up by 44%

The Large Cap Stalwarts Portfolio had more Removes then Adds this month. The number of tickers in the Portfolio is now 15. The usual number is 20. This occurs from time-to-time according to the backtest. The software is finding it harder to identify strong candidates that meet all the criteria. This is a bit of a red flag for the near term performance of large cap stocks.
