Paid Subscriber – PositionTrader.Blog – Update 11/21/2025

The last two weeks have seen a rather extreme example of what happens when investors move in a panicked way to sell their winners. Extreme Fear grips the markets right now. This happens from time to time. There does not seem to be any reason for it. In the past, these types of mass stampedes for the exit have been excellent buying opportunities.

To my paid subscribers. The introductory subscription rate for annual will be increasing on January 1, 2026. All current subscribers both monthly and annual will not be effected by this change since as long as you keep renewing you are locked in to the introductory rate. If one was thinking of changing from monthly to annual, if done next year you will get the higher annual rate.

This is the last blog post update to be made on Friday morning. Following the Thanksgiving Holiday, I will resume blog post updates every Monday morning. The first one will be on December 1, 2025. This change will allow me more time to put together the free and paid posts. In addition, by posting on Monday morning, the Quantitative research platform will have the weekend to process all the new information coming in at the end of the week. Improved results might just result from this change.

Many Gold stocks that are not in the Portfolio qualify to be added this week but we already have a large number of Gold stocks in the Portfolio. We don’t want to over concentrate in one industry. AU (AngloGold Ashanti plc) is at the top of the list of highly ranked gold stocks.

What does Hanover Insurance do?

The Hanover Insurance Group is a U.S. property and casualty insurer offering commercial, specialty, and personal coverage. Its products range from commercial auto and workers’ comp to professional liability, marine, surety, home, auto, and personal umbrella policies. The company sells through independent agents and brokers. Founded in 1852 and renamed in 2005, Hanover is headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Positives for Hanover Insurance:

  • Diversified and steady: THG’s investment mix is solid, cash flow keeps climbing, and they keep raising dividends without stretching the balance sheet.
  • Valuation edge: Trading at a 15% P/E discount to the competition—analysts say you’re getting quality without paying high prices.
  • Strong Q1 pop: Operating income per share jumped 26%, showing the company can deliver real earnings growth even in a choppy market.

Concerns for Hanover Insurance:

  • Margin lag: EBITDA and net income margins trail the big players in the P&C space—THG isn’t the most efficient shop on the block.
  • Cat-loss risk: Storms, fires, disasters—one bad event and earnings can take a hit, even with reinsurance in place.
  • Rate-cut pressure: If the Fed trims rates, THG’s fixed-income-heavy portfolio could see lower yields, trimming investment income.
